Cameron Hughes is a wine negociant who is making some delicious wines. Last week his dad was in my office to show me some of his sons wine. His dad was charming and delightful and so were the wines. I chose the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 60 as a feature for our stores. This wine is sourced primarily from the Stag's Leap District of California. An excellent area for quality Cabernets. The nose was fabulous--spice, cedar, clove, blackberry and cherry were married and aromatic. This aromas followed through to lush flavors on its smooth, rich, balanced palate and finished with hints of chocolate. Yum. JMO

2005 J Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay is from a 40 acre vineyard in Monterey County. It was barrel fermented in French oak and spent 18 months sur lies aging. The Lohr rep. tasted me through an array of their products and the Chardonnay was my selection for a feature. Its nose is rich and ripe with apple, pear, vanilla, butter, sweet caramel, mocha, and nuttiness that follow to a delicious palate with nice weight and a long, lush finish. JMO

2005 Black Bart Syrah Stagecoach Vineyard--$48.99

"Readers looking for a California red that is a dead-ringer for a French Cote Rotie should check out this wine. It boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as an unmistakable nose of graphite, bacon fat, cassis, cherries, licorice, pepper and tapenade. The remarkably complex aromatics are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with good acidity, purity, and impeccable winemaking. Drink it over the next 8-10 years." RATED: 94 points by Robert Parker

2003 Marietta Cellars Angeli Cuvee--$31.99

"One of the finest wines the proprietor Chris Bilbro and his son, Jake, are fashioning is their 2003 Angeli Cuvee. A blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Carignan, it is a big, mouthfilling wine with a dense ruby/purple color, plenty of black raspberry and blueberry fruit, earth, pepper, and incense in the background, medium body, and moderate tannin. Drink this tasty, rich, full-throttle 2003 over the next 3-4 years." RATED: 92 points by Robert Parker

CATENA ZAPATA "ARGENTINO" MALBEC 2004 Malbec Argentino is named in honor of the varietal--Malbec--that has given so much to the Catena Family and Argentina over the last century. Catena Zapata Argentino is made from high altitude vineyards planted with a selection of vines that are 70 years old and is the personal selection of the 12 best barrels of Malbec from Bodega Catena Zapata. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. "It's one of the most impressive young Malbecs I have ever tasted." James Molesworth, Wine Spectator. 12 barrels were made. $125.00 per bottle
