2006 GROTH CABERNET SAUVIGNON– Oakville, Napa Valley
The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is grown on the estate-controlled
vineyards in Oakville, the heart of Napa Valley. The Oakville
District is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and produces wine
that is full, lush and very elegant. This 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is
big and succulent with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor.
The texture is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown
in Oakville. The winemaker’s patience during bottle-aging has
rewarded us with an outstanding bottle that can be enjoyed over
the next 10 to 15 years.
We have an extensive variety of Rose wines in the stores. A perfect wine for the spring and summer weather we "hope" to be having soon. There is a style for every taste bud."
Many thanks to Claire Allen who is the owner and winemaker of Huia Wines in New Zealand for pouring her wines at State Street on Friday, June 12, 2009. It was very informative and lots of fun.
Friday, May 22, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Margot Holtzman was here from Still River Winery in Harvard, MA to sample their delicious Apfel Eis (Apple Ice Wine)and sign bottles. Thank you.
Friday, June 19, 2009, a local resident, Dave Ostberg will be at State Street from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to sample 2007 Shooting Star Blue Franc (which happens to have his picture on the label) and sign bottles. He will also be tasting several other Shooting Star wines.
A thank you to Mark Seymour of Leveritt, MA for sampling his wine, Fish Hook Pinot Blanc, to our customers and signing bottles.
I would like to thank Bill Dendor for doing a tasting of his Wisdom Old Vine Zinfandel last week. We all loved the wine.
Listen to us on 93.9 FM, The River, mornings with Monte. We taste wine with Monte and have fun teaching him about wine. We had several topics this week.
Please ask us about our new Zinfandel. 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel "Wisdom". You will hear more about it soon. Created by a local friend, it is well-made. We will have Bill Dendor in soon to let you taste his new wine and sign a bottle for you.
Just last week the representative from Steele Winery was in my office with a wine called Shooting Star Blue Franc 2007. I tried the wine and loved the ripe blueberry flavor and the freshness of this pretty red wine. After hearing a little about the wine, I looked at the label. Lo and behold, the person pictured on the label was sitting before me!! He is a local resident, Dave Ostberg, and was chosen to be honored on the label! Dave will be here soon to taste you on his wine and also sign a bottle for you.
Pinot Noir--2006 Cambria Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir. "This is the best Pinot Noir at this price on the market. Easily. It's picture-perfect cool climate, absolutely dry and silky, with complex flavors of cherries, Mandarin orange, cola, pomegranates, licorice and cinnamon spice, made even richer by smokey oak. Just lovely, and gets even better as it breathes in the glass. Editors Choice." RATED 93 points by the Wine Enthusiast.
2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Bourgogne. The wines from this vineyard are superlative. Robert Chevillon owns 13 hectares of vines in the village of Nuits-St-Georges. These vines range in age from 25 to 75 years old. He "does his own thing" with no regard for new trends or change and his results are consistently fabulous.
A surprise wine from the "Cork Dork's" wine cellar. He has gone to the pinot noir festival on several occasions and surprised us with one of his selections.
A conversation about old wines.
What is the difference between drinking wine out of any ole glass or one that is made for that varietal.

Rosenblum Cellars Desiree Chocolate Dessert Wine (375 ml)
If you want to make any meal more memorable, try this delicious dessert wine from Rosenblum. This is their interpretation of an elegant Port, an exotic blend of zinfandel and two native Portuguese varietals infused with chocolate.Pair robust, fruit and chocolate decadence with your favorite after dinner treat or enjoy it on its own or over ice cream.
Left-Hand Milk Stout
"...quite possibly the best Stout in America." "If you enjoy stouts, you'll love Left Hand Milk Stout. Hell, if you enjoy beer, you'll love Left Hand Milk Stout. It pours a slightly opaque, deep amber to black color with hues of ruby. The aroma is reminiscent of a fine mocha coffee or even rich chocolate milk. The taste opens with hints of sweet coffee and milk chocolate before maturing into rich, full malty body." RATED: 97 points by Draft Magazine
This beer deserves a second, or even third look. It is rich, creamy, heavily malted and sublime. This beer grows on you until you begin to compare all other stouts against it.--Wesley, Cooper's Corner Liquors.
